Killer (The Skulls #5)(36)
Author: Sam Crescent

One day he’d have her na**d at his table while they ate.

“We’ve got to make the most of our situation.” Picking up his knife and fork he dived into the eggs and bacon.

“Killer, I don’t regret us sharing a house. What I hate is knowing it’ll come to an end,” she said, smiling sadly at him.

Grabbing her hand, he stared into her eyes. “When all this is over we’ll find a place together.”

“When all this is over I won’t have the money.”

“You’re a dental nurse, Kels, and believe it or not, I’ve got quite a bit put by for a rainy day.”

She chuckled, and he loved the sound.

They ate their breakfast in silence. Killer placed his cell phone on the table in case of any incoming calls. He wasn’t in a rush to end their time together, but he wanted Michael out of their life.

“What do you think we should do today?” she asked, standing up.

“I’ll help you with the dishes.” He dried all the dishes loving the domestic feeling of being stood by her in their home.

Not our home.

The moment the danger was all over, he’d be investing in their own place.

“We’re going out. I’m going to get myself acquainted with the new boss, and we’re going to be seen around town.”

“Where is your leather cut?” she asked.

“Keeping a low profile, baby. No cut and no mention of The Skulls. We’re a married couple trying to make a life for each other.”

She finished washing the sides down as he went back to grab the bag Sandy packed for him. Sitting at the table he changed her dressings checking over her marks before covering them back up.

“Thank you,” she said.

“No need to thank me. Come on, let’s get out of here.”

Together they left the house, climbing into the car to head back into town. He found an available parking space in the parking lot around the back of the small shopping mall.

He took her hand, and they headed out together. He nodded at people they passed. Wearing a long shirt covered up his tats. For the first time since he joined The Lions, he was finally a civilian. Women still gazed his way. A few men stared at Kelsey, but she clung to his side like a lifeline. Compared to the women she looked pale. She’d not gotten out all that much to get some sun.

With them being alone away from the danger he’d make sure she spent a great deal of time in the garden getting a tan.

“Do you think we’ll fit in?” she asked.

“We’re already fitting in.” Crossing the main road he headed toward the mechanic shop where Mason stood waiting.

“Hey, man. I didn’t think you’d make it in today.”

“Wanted to come and meet the man I’m working for,” he said.

The shop had two cars already in place to be worked on underneath.

“Jason is in his office. Be careful. He’s not in a good mood, but then, he’s rarely in a good mood,” Mason said.

Leaving Kelsey with the other man he made his way toward the back. Knocking on the partially open door Killer waited for permission to enter the room.

“What?” The harsh voice called through.

Entering the room he stared at the middle aged man behind the desk. His head was bent over a sheet of numbers. His temples were graying, and Killer spotted ink up and down the man’s arms.

“Are you the f**ker Alex wants to put to work?” Jason asked, looking up. There was a scar down one side of his face. He looked vicious, scary, and not altogether pleasant.

“I guess so.” He took a seat in the chair opposite. “Last I checked Alex is paying you to pay me.”

“Yeah, I owe the f**ker my life.” Jason pointed to his eye. “Can you at least work on cars? Last thing I need is for you to f**k up the cars we’ve already got in place.”

“Yeah, I can work on cars.”

“Good, that’s all I need to know. You’re starting on Monday. I don’t want any bad shit brought to my establishment. I hear you got a woman with you?”

“Yeah, she’s out front with Mason. You want me to introduce her?”

Jason nodded. “I want to see if she’ll cause me any trouble.”

Leaving the office he found Kelsey stood along the far wall watching Mason work on the car. “Hey, baby.” He tugged her close, slamming his lips down on hers. She moaned, opening up to him. “Kelsey, I’d like you to meet my new boss, Jason.” Killer introduced the two.

“It’s so good of you to take him,” she said, offering her hand.

“Are you satisfied?” Killer asked.

“Yeah, for now. Come back on Monday. You’ll have work waiting for you then.” Jason walked away.

Mason cleaned his hands on a towel moving toward them. “He’s moody but a good boss. You won’t be disappointed.”

Killer wouldn’t dispute that. Taking Kelsey around the town he felt himself begin to relax. The outside world could wait. For now, it was just him and Kelsey with their troubles being handled by the rest of the club. He wasn’t going to waste a single moment of it.

Slamming the door of his car, Michael buttoned up his shirt and entered The Skulls’ domain. Cars and bikes filled the compound, and the mechanic shop was closed for a change. He didn’t enter Fort Wills without being completely in the know about The Skulls.

They caused a problem for anyone who entered their territory about to break the law.

“What the f**k are you doing on my land?” Tiny said, coming out of the door. Several men and a couple of women exited the clubhouse to face him.

Michael knew all of their names, including the women. He spotted Angel instantly. One of his men thought she’d pull in a tidy sum, but there was no way any of them was willing to take on Lash. Nasty business dealing with the biker group, not to mention their connection to Chaos Bleeds, which kept most of their enemies away.

He noted Killer was missing from the group. “Where is she?” he asked.

“Who?” Zero asked.

“You can play games all you want. Kelsey is mine. It won’t be long before I get her back and Killer is in prison for kidnapping.”

The threat was not an empty one. He imagined his own enemies were already on the hunt to use her against him. Fuck, this was becoming more of a mess than he anticipated. Maybe he should have divorced her when she asked. What was the point in staying married to a woman who clearly didn’t want him?

Sandy stood glaring at him with hands on her hips.
