Which was reached.

‘Come…now…now!’ she shrieked, unable to hold on any longer.

And he did, surging up and plunging in, shooting her to an instant shattering climax, then taking her on a constant roll of orgasms that totally rewrote her experience of sexual pleasure. So consumed was she by what he could do for her, she lost all awareness of anything else. Her hands found their own paths of sensual delight, gliding over the taut muscles of his body, touching his face, his hair. Her feet slid down his thighs, savouring their incredible strength and stamina.

Sometimes he paused to kiss her and she surrendered her mouth to his with a blissful joy in the heightened intimacy. Most of the time she just closed her eyes and let the marvels of their inner world wash through her, focusing on every magic ripple of it. And the final burst of melding warmth lingered on long after Nic had moved to lie beside her, his arm clasping her so close her head rested over his heart, their bodies humming a sweet togetherness.

He stroked her hair, planted a slow, warm kiss on it, murmured, ‘I hope I got it right for you this time.’

Amazing that he doubted himself in any way. ‘You did the first time,’ she answered truthfully.

The hand stroking her hair stilled. She could hear the frown in his voice as he queried, ‘But I just…took you.’

She lifted herself up enough to smile her totally unclouded pleasure in him. ‘I took you, too. Didn’t you realise that, Nic?’

The V between his brows didn’t clear. She reached up and gently smoothed it away, still smiling to erase any concern in his mind. ‘I’ve loved every minute of having you.’

Taking him? Having him?

It blew Nic’s mind. Serena was still on top of this game while he…he’d almost completely lost it back there in the kitchen, going for it full-on, already inside her before he’d even thought of contraception. All right for her. She’d known she was on the pill. No worries there to slow her down or give her heart a hell of a jolt. Then not saying a word when he’d brought her in here, letting him make love to her to see what that was like as opposed to the raw sex event…no wonder she looked so smugly satisfied.

She’d taken him!

While he… Nic pulled himself up on the wild flurry of thoughts. He’d got what he wanted, hadn’t he? Serena was in bed with him, happy to be here. So why did he feel screwed up about it? He should be feeling great. He did. But he wasn’t on top of what was going on here. It was like…she was drawing more from him than he was drawing from her. He’d never had this situation before. The need to feel secure with this woman was gnawing at him. Why it meant so much he didn’t know but he had to reach into her somehow and make their connection firm.

He returned her smile. ‘Well, that’s good to hear, Serena. I didn’t want you to feel…badly used.’

She laughed a little self-consciously. ‘Not at all. It was truly a mutual thing.’

‘Fine!’

A thump on the bed startled both of them. It was Cleo who proceeded to prance around them excitedly, wagging her tail, tongue hanging out, looking for a place to lick.

‘Oh, no you don’t!’ Nic yelled, hastily disentangling himself from Serena as he silently cursed himself for leaving the bedroom door open.

The little terrier evaded his first grab. It was Serena who caught Cleo—predictably!—and lifted her down onto the floor, laughing as she patted the dog to calm the barks of protest.

‘No third parties allowed in here,’ she said, then turned twinkling eyes to Nic. ‘I guess it’s time for us to try that ice-cream.’

‘Good idea!’

Giving him time to win more from the highly challenging Serena Fleming. He didn’t understand how he’d got so far out of his depth with this woman…or was he already in too deep to change anything?

If he just went with the flow…

Why not?

Wasn’t he winning, too?

CHAPTER TEN

NIC scooped up their clothes from the kitchen floor and laid them on the bar counter separating kitchen from living room, moving away from them to go to the freezer for the ice-cream.

‘Not dressing?’ Serena asked, unaccustomed to walking around completely naked in front of a man, though she liked watching him, his beautiful body in motion, the slight swagger in his carriage that denoted total confidence in himself, nude or otherwise.

He threw her a wicked grin. ‘Why give ourselves the frustration of clothes getting in the way again?’

She blushed, realising he wanted her easily accessible, sexually accessible. Lust not sated yet. And in all honesty, was hers for him?

He cocked a quizzical eyebrow. ‘You’re shy?’

‘No. Not exactly.’ She wanted it to be more than lust. A total connection. Was that too unreasonable, given their different backgrounds and circumstances?

‘You shouldn’t be.’ His gaze sparkled over her. ‘You’re beautiful, incredibly sexy, and I want the pleasure of looking at you.’

The compliments boosted her confidence. It was silly to feel self-conscious. She had a good figure. They had just been deeply intimate. There was no turning back from that. Nor did she want to. Wherever it led, she was going with it now, tugged by feelings she had never experienced before.

Yet as he turned away to open the freezer, her mind flashed back to their very first encounter, with Nic opening the front door in boxer shorts, obviously pulled on for a modicum of modesty—over an erection—then Justine strolling out from the bedroom wing in a skimpy wraparound, another modicum of modesty in front of a possible visitor. They had both been naked before the doorbell had rung. And now here she was…naked…with the same man…barely a fortnight later.

Had he said the same things to Justine?

Stop it! she fiercely berated herself. Jealousy was an ugly thing. Nic hadn’t chased after the penthouse pet. He’d dropped Justine cold and gone all out to set up this situation. She was the woman he wanted to be with.

He lined up four tubs of ice-cream on the bench beside the freezer, then reached up to a cupboard for dishes. ‘Spoons from the cutlery drawer, Serena,’ he instructed, flashing her his dazzling smile as she brought them over. Her heart started pitter-pattering again.

‘I’ll give Cleo some of the chocolate,’ he said, spooning ice-cream from that tub.

‘Chocolate isn’t good for dogs,’ she automatically recited, having heard Michelle give that advice to clients.
